Political parties are hungry for sensitive personal data about your views, opinions, voting preferences and ideological outlook. Parties will actively seek to obtain this information from surveys and canvassing. They will also purchase commercially available data-sets and use automatic processing to try and predict your likely voting beliefs and intentions.
Some people might be happy to volunteer this information to parties, or for political parties to purchase data about them. Others might feel uncomfortable about political parties holding records of their personal and private political views.
Open Rights Group has created this tool to empower you to exercise your choice on this matter. Under Article 21 of UK GDPR you have the right to object to the processing of your personal data.
You can use the tool on this page to attempt to opt-out of automated decision-making and profiling. To get started, select the nation you are registered to vote in.
You can then select which political parties you would like to register your right to object to processing of your data to.
Although the right to object to processing is only an absolute right for direct marketing purposes, most political parties will stop processing some or all of your personal data upon a request.
You can choose to provide an ID document now with your request, or you can provide it directly to the political parties if they request it via email. ORG and More Onion will not retain any of your documents. Only if you choose to opt in to communication will we retain your contact details.
You should also be aware that if you opt out of a political party processing your data, you will likely receive less information from that party, and you may or may not find the information they send you useful or informative.
